A process for the manufacture of a compound of formula III, wherein R is alkyl; R1 is alkoxyalkyl; and R 'is hydrogen, alkyl or aralkyl; or a salt thereof; comprising said manufacture (preferably consisting of) reacting a compound of formula I wherein R and R1 are as defined for a compound of formula III with a glycine compound of formula II wherein R 'is as It defined for a compound of formula III, in order to produce the imine.
