A technique for cultivating plants which involves cultivation boxes provided vertically over multiple levels is intended to reduce power consumption, and enable safe planting, harvesting and the like. An energy efficient system for raising/lowering plant cultivation boxes comprises cultivation boxes (2) provided vertically over multiple levels, a cultivation box raising/lowering coupling device (1), and a cultivation light source (20) which can control the turning on of lights according to the raising/lowering of the cultivation boxes in a vertical direction. The vertical interval between cultivation boxes can be increased or decreased using the cultivation box raising/lowering coupling device, and the cultivation boxes can be removed one stage at a time. Further disclosed is an energy efficient facility for plant cultivation which uses the energy efficient system for raising/lowering plant cultivation boxes and which is equipped with a photovoltaic power generation system, a wind power generation system, a hydroelectric power generation system, and a waste heat power generation system.
