Evaluating a gas reservoir or the capacity of a reservoir to store C02, requires and understanding of the total porosity and the gas per unit volume storage capability of the porous material comprising the reservoir. In general, storage capacity is a function of the porous material properties, the reservoir pore pressure, and temperature. Total porosity and storage capability are difficult to characterize when multiple storage mechanisms are present. The current invention provides an apparatus which uses a multi-stage filling process combined with NMR to determine the total storage capacity and total porosity as a function of pressure and temperature. Advantageously, the present invention provides for performance of these measurements under in-situ subsurface conditions.
