PURPOSE: A flywheel with variable mass moment of inertia is provided to enhance the energy efficiency and the accelerating response of a rotating machine since mass moment of inertia is optimized according to speed change.;CONSTITUTION: A flywheel with variable mass moment of inertia comprises a flywheel mass(1), a coiled spring(3) and a linear movement guide(2). The flywheel mass has a large eccentric distance and a mass of M. A critical speed is established within the speed range of a rotating machine. The spring constant of the coiled spring is k=M ω n2. The linear movement guide connects the flywheel mass to the coiled spring and realizes the linear movement of the flywheel mass.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2011
