FLAME-RETARDANT COMPOSITION WITH A SMOKE-INHIBITORY PROPERTY USING METAL HYDROXIDES SUCH AS ALUMINIUM HYDROXIDE, NON-METAL HYDROXIDES, AND EXPANDED GRAPHITE AND A METHOD FOR PREPARING FLAME-RETARDANT EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE
PURPOSE: A flame retardant composition is provided to minimize the generation of toxic gas in the fire by not using organic solvents and to impart fire retardant characteristic to expanded polystyrene beads.;CONSTITUTION: A flame retardant composition includes 20~40 parts by weight of aluminum hydroxide, 10~40 parts by weight of expanded graphite, 18~40 parts by weight of vinyl acetate resin, 5~10 parts by weight of a hardener and 30~50 parts by weight of water. A method for preparing flame retardant expanded polystyrene beads comprises the steps of: injecting the flame retardant composition and expanded polystyrene beads in a weight ratio of 1:1 in a stirrer; stirring them at 50~150 rpm for 10~20 minutes to coat the surface of the expanded polystyrene beads with the flame retardant.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2011
