PURPOSE: A liquid crystal alignment agent is provided to obtain a liquid crystal alignment film having high liquid crystal alignment property and excellent black color level.;CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal alignment agent includes at least one polymer selected from polyamic acids and derivatives thereof. The polyamic acids are obtained by reacting a mixture consisting of tetracarboxylic dianhydride represented by chemical formula (I) and the other tetracarboxylic dianhydride with diamine. Based on the total amount of the mixture of tetracarboxylic dianhydride, the ratio of the tetracarboxylic dianhydride represented by chemical formula (I) is 5~95 mole % and the ratio of the other tetracarboxylic dianhydride is 5~95 mole %.
