PURPOSE: A shape-based index construction and matching method for efficiently recognizing a 3D object is provided to achieve accurate real-time object recognition even though a certain query image is given. CONSTITUTION: An image is extracted from 3D objects, and a distance curve is calculated(S101). Replicated shapes are removed(S103), and an effective image extraction section is calculated. The images included in the image extraction section and are combined with the mirror images placed on the opposite side of the image extraction section(S105). A static index for a horizontal and vertical camera image and a dynamic index for a rotation image are formed(S107).
