The device (1) has a coolable flat element (2), a detection unit (4) for the detection of a precipitate of a condensate on a surface (O) of the flat element and a temperature detection unit (6) for detecting the temperature (T1 to T10) of the surface. Two cooling elements (3.1,3.2) are arranged on the flat element at a distance from each other, such a temperature gradient is generated at the surface between the cooling elements, so that they form a dew section (A1) and a non-dew section (A2) on the surface. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining dew point temperature of gases.
