The device (10) has a mist generator (14) comprising a liquid inlet, an evaporation unit for heating and evaporating liquid, and a mist outlet opening. The generator is accommodated in a chamber (24) in a housing (26). The housing has a compressed-air supply (36) for introducing compressed air, and another chamber (38) into which the outlet opening extends. A probe (54) is connected to the latter chamber via a line (56) for mist (12). A compressed air passage opening is arranged between the chambers. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing artificial mist.
