The method involves determining two actual driving resistances repeatedly while driving a motor vehicle in two driving directions, respectively, where the two driving directions are opposite to each other. A rolling friction factor is computed from the driving resistances in the two driving directions, vehicle mass and acceleration due to gravity according to a specific equation. The two driving resistances are durably stored for determination of rolling friction of the motor vehicle, where the driving resistances lie within a preset range of tolerance.
