Medical product comprises physically crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol and at least one biocompatible nucleating agent. An independent claim is included for method for producing the medical product comprising (a) freezing a liquid mixture comprising polyvinyl alcohol, the nucleating agent and a biocompatible solvent or solvent mixture, (b) thawing the frozen mixture, (c) optionally repeating the steps (a) and (b), (d) preferably at least partially removing the solvent and/or solvent mixture from the mixture to produce the medical product.
