The drive (1) has a crankshaft for driving an auxiliary unit (5) e.g. starter generator, of an internal combustion engine by a traction drive (2) e.g. belt drive. An overhauling device (3) e.g. overhauling free-wheel, is provided between the crankshaft and the traction drive, where the overhauling device is shiftable. The crankshaft and the drive are firmly connectable, where the crankshaft is overhaulable by the traction drive and/or the drive is overhaulable by the crankshaft. A step-up gear unit or a reduction gear unit is arranged between the overhauling device and the crankshaft. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an auxiliary unit drive.
