The converter has a power transformer including a primary winding (W1) and two secondary windings (W2, W3), where magnetic flux is controlled by one of the secondary windings. A voltage pulse is obtained in a secondary circuit of the transformer from an alternating current voltage in a primary circuit of the transformer by synchronized short-circuiting of one of the secondary windings by a switch (S). Current flow is allowed in one of the secondary windings for a short time and immediately interrupted for obtaining the voltage pulse.
