The method involves representing objects (20) on a display surface (10), and detecting gesture of a user e.g. driver, on the display surface. A subset of the objects is shifted independent of positions of the objects on the display surface in an area of the display surface near to a position in which the gesture of the user is implemented. One of the objects is positioned before shifting outside of a range of the user. The display surface is arranged in a vehicle and divided into two areas. The subset of the objects is selected by the user. An independent claim is also included for a device for providing a graphical user interface.
