The invention relates to high-performance inorganic phosphors based on silicate compounds with improved stability to the radiation exposure occurring and resistance to the influence of atmospheric moisture, which are capable of converting high-energy excitation radiation, for example UV rays or blue light, with high efficiency into one convert longer wavy radiation, which is preferably emitted in the visible spectral range. According to the invention, the silicate phosphors with the general formula Sr3-x-y-zCaxMII ySiO5: Euz are added a molar fraction of the calcium x with values between 0 and 0.05. The phosphors are used in light sources in the form of colored or white-shining LEDs, in which these phosphors, possibly in combination with other luminophores, are used to effectively convert the ultraviolet or blue primary radiation emitted by the LEDs into longer-wave secondary radiation, especially white Find light use.
