The method involves providing multiple support plates (5) to a thin sheet arrangement (2) with a tree-like structured strip guard net (3). The thin sheet arrangement is applied on a flexible carrier film. The support plates of thin sheet arrangement are equipped with LEDs. An electrical interconnection is generated between the LEDs and the strip guard net. The thin sheet arrangement of the carrier film is freely cut along one outer contour of the thin sheet arrangement in order to obtain an LED module. Lugs are provided at the support plates, and recesses are brought into the lugs. An independent claim is also included for a LED module comprising a thin sheet arrangement with multiple support plates to receive LEDs and a strip guard net for power source of the LED.
