The instrument (1) has a shaft (3) with a proximate end (5) and a distal end (7), and a light source (13) i.e. laser light source, arranged at the proximate end of the shaft for producing light. A projection device (15) converts the light produced by the light source into projection light that is discharged from the distal end of the shaft for producing a projection, where the light produced by the light source is guided to the projection device. A combining optic is arranged between the light source and a micro mirror of a reflectance device of the projection device. An independent claim is also included for a medical device comprising a tracking system for determining a position of an endoscopic instrument.
