The device has a cooling water pump (6) communicating cooling chambers with a heat exchanger (23) in a cylinder head (2) and a cylinder jacket (3). The heat exchanger is firmly flanged on an engine over a module housing (1) that is outward connected with ports of the cooling chambers. An entry chamber (1a) is formed in the module housing for flowing of cooling water into the heat exchanger. An exit chamber (1b) is formed in the module housing for flowing the cooling water from the heat exchanger. A ventilation chamber (1c) is formed as an expansion tank in the module housing.
