The method involves controlling an automated shift-gearbox of a motor vehicle by a controller. One of error entries is produced during occurrence of an error and during or after starting of the shift-gearbox. Two priorities are assigned to each error entry such that one of the priorities is aligned to parameters of starting of the shift-gearbox. The error entries and the priorities are stored in a fault memory of the controller in a volatile or non-volatile manner, where the parameters are formed as test facility needs. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product comprising a computer program having software units for implementing a method for starting an automated shift-gearbox of a motor vehicle if the computer program is implemented on a computer (2) a controller for implementing a method for starting an automated shift-gearbox of a motor vehicle.
