The machine (1) has a stator (2) provided with fixed windings and a rotor (3) that comprises permanent magnets (6) for producing a magnetic excitation field, where stator voltage is induced by a stator portion of the excitation field in the fixed windings. The rotor comprises an adjustment unit for adjusting magnetic field strength and/or a flow density of the stator portion. The adjustment unit is designed as a magnetic auxiliary field production unit, where resulting excitation field is generated by an overlay of the excitation field and auxiliary field. An independent claim is also included for a method for adjusting a magnetic field strength and/or a flow density of a stator portion of an excitation field of an electrical machine.
