The method involves controlling photosensitivity of an image capturing unit by a sample signal (A), which comprises discrete pulses of shutter speeds (Tv) and non-shutter speeds (Tn). A phase position of the shutter speeds at the sample signal is changed during generation of the sample signal for sampling environment of a vehicle. A random or to pseudo-random scanning pattern of the sample signal is generated by middle frequency of the shutter speeds of individual lights of sensitive time intervals of the image capture unit. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling an image capturing unit for producing images of an environment of a vehicle.
