The malfunction diagnosing device has a predetermined vehicle stop-engine stop controller which responds to an automatic engine stop request, namely a request for automatic stoppage of the engine. A diagnostic circuit is provided to diagnose the idle stop system depending on the automatic engine stop request. The request is done for automatic restart of the engine in the time after the engine is started by a vehicle driver.
