The method involves converting analog or digital dimming specified values in pulse width modulation (PWM) pulses to dimming of electric load e.g. LED. A duty factor is adjustable in discrete steps. The constant dimming specified values are converted to obtain intermediate values between the steps of the discrete variable duty factor. A sub group is selected from a group of PWM pulses, where frequency of the PWM pulses is higher than 200 hertz. A lighting module is connected with a CPU over a signal line for sending of dimming specified values. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an integrated circuit for controlling dimming of an electric load (2) a lighting system comprising a lighting module.
