The method involves selecting a dreaded event from a preliminary analysis of risks. A fault tree is constructed by associating the event to a root and by connecting daughter nodes on the root by a logical connector, where each daughter node includes another fault tree or a terminal node corresponding to a fault mode. A set of potential causes with levels of criticality of the fault mode is identified in a data structure. The levels of criticality are examined by associating an action plan and a potential cause indicator. The event is an accidental extinction of a rolling headlight at night.
