The device has a drive unit associated with a shifting unit for shifting a forward gear ratio of a gearbox of a motor vehicle. The drive unit drives an axle (26) carrying a forward gear ratio control yoke (24) in first position. The drive unit has an integration system that integrates a hollow shaft (16) on the yoke axle in an automatic release manner to bring the drive unit to second position for shifting a reverse gear ratio without driving the yoke axle. The axle has a drive pin (19) sliding in an oblong recess (19a) extended on the hollow shaft in its axial direction.
