The method involves decomposing the heating system (R) into elementary systems. The volume of liquid moved in derivated branches (B11, B12, B13) of one elementary system (R1), and a quantity of heat delivered in the branches are measured. Balancing indexes are calculated from the measurements. The indexes are compared with a reference balancing index associated to the elementary system. The adjusting position of the balancing indexes is determined based on the difference between the calculated balancing index and the reference balancing index. An independent claim is also included for a system for controlling balance of a heating system by circulation of heating liquid, comprising a liquid volume measuring unit.
