The method involves sending a wear request (R) in direction of a tire (1), and sending a non-wear response (ACK) for reception of the wear request by a transmitter-receiver wear marker (2) e.g. radio frequency identification (RFID) marker, where response time of the transmitter-receiver wear marker to the wear request is measured to deduct a degree of wear of the tire. The wear request is transmitted by a transponder (4). The transmitter-receiver wear marker is placed in a tire tread (10). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a tire for a wheel of a vehicle, comprising a transmitter-receiver wear marker (2) a system for detection of wear of a tire of a wheel of a vehicle.
