The method involves estimating operating range of a motor vehicle from the calculation of the energy required to realization of the route to reach the destination by a user, using an operating range calculating unit (10). The information frame for the route is obtained while minimizing the cost function that is representative of consumption index. The consumption index is obtained from consumption index tables. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for estimating operating range for a vehicle from information related to remaining route to reach a selected destination by a user (2) a energy control system comprising a calculation unit (3) a navigation system comprising a calculation unit.
