The method involves allowing an internal combustion petrol engine (10) to take two operating modes e.g. homogenous combustion operating modes, where an emission rate of nitrogen oxides is greater than and lower than predetermined threshold, in the operating modes, respectively. One of the operating mode is adopted, when a processing device (130) e.g. nitrogen oxides trap, process the nitrogen oxides. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an internal combustion petrol engine comprising a processing device (2) a vehicle comprising an internal combustion petrol engine.
