PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of hot rolling, a method of manufacturing hot rolled steel plates, a hot rolling mill and an apparatus for manufacturing hot rolled steel plates, wherein a slip at inserting feed of a lead potion, surface roughening on the surfaces of work rolls, etc. can be inhibited to a minimum even when rolling under a high pressure is performed.;SOLUTION: The method of hot rolling includes a step of inserting a lead portion of a rolling object material in between a pair of work rolls, feeding a high pressure hot water of at least 70°C and at least 5 MPa toward between the roll gap and the sites where lubricants collide with the work rolls in the course of feeding lubricants toward the work rolls. The method of manufacturing hot rolled steel plates includes a step of performing hot rolling of a steel plate employing the method of hot rolling. The hot rolling mill includes: a pair of work rolls and a pair of backup rolls; lubricant feeding means disposed on inlet sides of the work rolls; and cleaning agent-feeding means, the cleaning agent-feeding means being provided in positions closer to the rolling object material than the lubricant feeding means.
