PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lockup clutch mechanism capable of achieving miniaturization, preventing judder and stabilizing sealing effectiveness by increasing transmission torque.;SOLUTION: A frictional material is adhered to either one of a lockup piston and a front cover, and the lockup clutch mechanism for a torque converter performs engagement or disengagement in accordance with the oil pressure difference between the front cover and the lockup piston. The friction material is provided with a flat first friction surface on an outside diameter side and a tapered and tilted second friction surface on an inside diameter side. When the lockup piston and the front cover are slip-controlled, the first friction surface is engaged in an even surface pressure. When the lockup piston and the front cover are almost integrally engaged by the oil pressure difference larger than slip control, a maximum surface pressure is generated in a boundary part between the first friction surface and the second friction surface.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
