PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor drive controller wherein temperature rise due to the overload operation of a motor is more reliably prevented. PSOLUTION: In temperature range 352 (t0Tmgt1) and temperature range 354 (t1Tmgt2), a torque limit value Tqlmt is set so as to limit output torque, based on motor temperature Tmg. In temperature range 356 (Tmgt2), the torque output of the motor is inhibited. A predetermined temperature t2 is an allowable temperature set by allowing a margin to a limit temperature t3 that leads to failure in the motor. A predetermined temperature t1 is determined by taking the cooling power of the motor into account with respect to the allowable temperature t2. Limitation of the output torque of the motor is started in the temperature range 352 lower than the predetermined temperature t1 at which the output torque limitation for the suppression of motor temperature rise is required. The limitation of the output torque is started with characteristics more moderate than those of the output torque limitation in the temperature range 354 higher than the predetermined temperature t1.
