PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for measuring deformation quantity of buildings when receiving earthquake motion and a program which converts the above measured data into distortion and then analyze the distortion to determine seismic magnitude from the time during the direction of main distortion continues specific direction.;SOLUTION: In this method, distortion is calculated from deformation quantity of building measured in the period when receiving small earthquake motion called as P-wave to determine the direction of main distortion in a specific plane through distortion analysis. This direction of main distortion computes seismic magnitude from the time length for continuing specific direction associated with fault movement to estimate peak magnitude level of S-wave incoming subsequent to the P-wave, being important as seismic disaster preventive information.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
