PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display and inform a user the accurate availability in editing a write-once medium.;SOLUTION: A recording and reproducing system for the write-once medium comprises a medium information managing means for managing the medium management information recorded in a medium management information area of the medium by a preset update unit, an alternating address information managing means for managing the alternating addresses (source/destination) included in the medium management information, and an availability calculating means for calculating the availability for editing, and calculates the availability from the unit volume for updating of the management information on the medium recorded when editing and the remaining volume of the management information.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
