PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply evaluating the flaw of a steel pipe pillar earth edge part of high reliability, without the corrosion flaws being evaluated as a lighter corrosion flaw which differs from actual corrosion flaw. PSOLUTION: The probe 2 of an ultrasonic flaw detector is attached to the ground part of the steel pipe pillar 1, the lower part of which is embedded in the ground and an ultrasonic wave is transmitted to an underground part by the probe 2 to receive an echo by the probe 2. From the echoes received by the probe 2, the comparison of the sum total of the echo heights from the steel pipe pillar earth edge part S with the sum total of the echo heights from a steel pipe pillar end surface part T is evaluated over a plurality of stages in a first evaluation means; the comparison of the sum total of the echo heights from the steel pipe pillar earth edge part S with the sum total of the echo heights from the U as a whole of a steel pipe pillar underground part is evaluated over a plurality of stages in a second evaluation means; and the flaw of the steel pipe pillar earth edge part is evaluated over a plurality of stages from the evaluation of a plurality of stages of the first evaluation stage and the evaluation of a plurality of stages of the second evaluation stage in a third evaluation means.
