The invention relates to a method for identifying the geometrical elements in an image with the view of evaluating both the dimensions of said objects and the position thereof with respect to other objects, with applications in cutting tools of reconfigurable technological systems. According to the invention, the method consists of a first stage wherein there are described the shapes of the sought geometrical elements and an initial number of holons is randomly assigned to some positions in a working scene, said holons being endowed with evolution rules, operations, instinct-laws and a system of the acquired knowledge and which form together a holarchic model of said scene, a second stage wherein the holons occupy the entire region having the same colour with the colour of the initial position, by applying the rules which they are endowed with and a third stage wherein the holons negociate and carry out the fusion of the occupied region, the criterion of the negotiation being the similarity of the shape of the region occupied by each holon to the shape of some unknown sought geometrical elements so that the regions occupied by the thus resulting holons possibly represent, the sought geometrical elements.
