Herein disclosed is a municipal water supply control system, comprising anunderground watermain, at least one water consumer station downstream from the water main andan undergroundwater delivery channel joining the water main to the water consumer,underground valve meanslocated either in the underground water main, the underground water deliverychannel or therebetween for controlling the passage of water to the water consumer,underground valveactivation means, responsive to an activation signal for activating theunderground water valvemeans between a closed condition and an open condition, valve activationcontrol means forissuing the activation signal and data channel means for establishing a wiredor wireless datachannel between the valve activation control means and the underground valveactuation meansto deliver the activation signal thereto.
