In a standardised process to define the quality of a paper fibre web (5), the manufacturing parameters and conditions are established and defined using standard methods of evaluation. The operating parameters and conditions are logged and placed in a data bank (29) for subsequent comparison with web samples e.g. specific weight per unit area. Further claimed is a commensurate assembly for the subsequent comparison of paper samples with standard target values. The process registers the nature of the fibre suspension, additives and overall machine parameters at intervals along the length of the process. The data is captured on or off-line.
