The present invention relates to the process of nucleation and growth of calcium silicate-based nanocrystals and the toughening of the cement materials resulting from the in situ growth of said crystals during the hydration reaction in the cement, preferably Portland cement or other cement with a similar composition, for various applications, including improving the mechanical performance of cement materials for: filling the underground space between the geological formation and the gas or oil exploration pipes in petrochemical wells; filling dental and orthopaedic cavities; and forming structural elements for construction.
