The method of detecting an estimated angular position (I) of a rotor (2) of a synchronous machine (1) with respect to a three-phase stator (3) comprises the steps of: - generating a detection voltage signal, - applying the detection voltage signal to an input d of a reference frame transformer (6) for transforming from a reference frame d, q into a reference frame α, β, - powering the stator (3) of the synchronous machine as a function of a detection voltage signal in the reference frame α, β, - gathering current signals (Ia-Ic) produced in the stator in a reference frame a, b, c, and transforming them to obtain current signals in the reference frame α, β, and, - processing the current signals obtained and the detection voltage signal, by means of a Kalman filter type observer (11) configured on the basis of a model incorporating the detection signal.
