PURPOSE: A surface light emitting device based on a quantum dot and surface plasmon coupling is provided to emit a quantum dot located on where direct excitation is impossible by transferring energy between quantum dots existing in a separated region by using a surface plasmon. CONSTITUTION: A metal layer(20) is formed on a substrate(10). A first quantum dot region(30) contains first quantum dots. A second quantum dot region(40) contains second quantum dots. The first and the second quantum dot region are prepared in a groove formed on the metal layer. Optical energy excited in the second quantum dot of the second quantum dot region is transmitted along a surface(20a) of the metal layer by the surface plasmon.
