PURPOSE: A gesture recognition method using a multimedia apparatus and apparatus thereof are provided to improve the convenience of a user by enabling a user to use objects as a gesture input unit.;CONSTITUTION: An image recognition unit(171) recognizes objects existed in images by analyzing the images captured by an image sensing unit. A storage unit(140) stores mapping data for the operation of a multimedia apparatus and a user gesture. A control unit(170) establishes gesture input waiting states by loading the mapping data and by searching the mapping data from the storage unit. The image sensing unit includes a depth image sensor and an RGB(Red, Green, and Blue) image sensor.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2012
