PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing Ampelopsis japonica Makino extract is provided to prevent and treat dementia and Parkinson's disease. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating dementia or Parkinson's disease contains Ampelopsis japonica Makino extract as an active ingredient. The extract is isolated using water, C1-C2 low alcohol or a mixture thereof. The dementia includes Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, or (MCI)(mild cognitive impairment). A health food for preventing and treating dementia or Parkinson's disease contains the extract as an active ingredient. A method for preparing the extract comprises: a step of adding an extraction solvent to dry Ampelopsis japonica Makino and extracting; a step of filtering the extract; and a step of concentrating the extract by reduced pressure.
