PURPOSE: A system and a method for estimating surface defects of a product during a continuous casting process are provided to indirectly estimate surface defects on a coil from the width of continuous cast slab and the thickness of the coil.;CONSTITUTION: A system for estimating surface defects of a product during a continuous casting process comprises a memory(140) and a control unit(150). The memory stores one or more of the contents of components in molten steel, the width of continuous cast slab, and the thickness of a rolled final product. The control unit calculates the quantitative value of the product using the width of continuous cast slab and the thickness of the product stored in the memory, calculates carbon equivalent and copper equivalent from the contents of components stored in the memory, obtains a CPI(Crack Prediction Index) by multiplying the carbon equivalent and copper equivalent and the quantitative value of the product, and estimates the generation degree of surface defects using the CPI.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2013;[Reference numerals] (120) Component analyzer; (130) Input unit; (140) Memory; (150) Control unit; (160) Display unit
