The method involves differentiating incidental traffic flows into alpine transit tunnels according to specific properties. The traffic flows are selectively separated by direct or indirect, periodical or aperiodical, symmetrical or asymmetrical and physical or temporal parameterization such that flow of traffic is controlled and optimized according to one of the parameters. The specific properties of the traffic flows are measured in finer temporal and/or geographical resolution according to transportation categories. An independent claim is also included for a unit for increasing safety in alpine transit traffic.
