The igniter comprises a cylinder head gasket (6) that is arranged between an engine block (1) and a cylinder head (2) of the internal combustion engine. An electrode (7) is electrically insulated by the cylinder head which is embedded in the cylinder head gasket for each cylinder. The electrode is arranged around the internal combustion engine in an annular manner, and the cylinder head forms the counter electrode. The electrode is connected with a plug connector by a lead (8). An independent claim is also included for a cylinder head gasket with an opening.
