The method involves performing two or more test cycles comprising a test routine. Pressure of fuel is increased and subsequent decreased in an electronic regular fuel injection system in each test cycle. Parameters of the fuel injection system in context of the test routine are determined and stored. The stored parameters are evaluated for recognition of mistakes. A determination is made whether the arisen mistake is reproducible. A determination is made that the fuel injection system is free of serious mistakes if all evaluated parameters lie in a respective anticipation region.
