The power plant has a pumping unit promoting storage medium to a high level of potential energy. A conversion unit i.e. turbine, converts potential energy of the storage medium into electrical energy. A storage chamber (10) stores and releases the storage medium. The storage chamber is formed in a buoyant manner, and the conversion unit generates electrical energy during storage of the storage medium into the storage chamber. The pumping unit and the converting unit are height displaced into the storage chamber and mounted on a rail or a pivot arm. An independent claim is also included for a method for storing electrical energy by conversion into potential energy.
