The method involves determining a reference reception signal based on a template transmitting signal known at a receiver (R) and an estimated transmission channel impulse response (h-t) of a radio-based transmission channel (H) within a time interval. Doppler shift is determined based on correlation of the reference reception signal with a reception signal (r-t) that is transmitted over the channel and received by the receiver. Relative speed between a transmitter (S) and the receiver is determined based on the determined Doppler shift. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for determination of a periodical Doppler shift during radio-based ultra wide band (UWB) transmission between transmitters and receivers (2) a computer program comprising instructions to perform a method for determination of a periodical Doppler shift during radio-based UWB transmission between transmitters and receivers.
