The device has a microcomputer (2) that provides electric load (10-12) as open load, if output voltage pulses of load unattenuated by drive unit (1) are matched with symmetric voltage pulse. The electric load is provided as dirt resistor, if output voltage pulses of electric load attenuated by drive unit are matched with symmetric voltage pulse. The electric load is provided as incandescent lamp, if output voltage pulses of electric load are zero. The electric load is provided as LED string, if output voltage pulses of electric load are unbalanced in both polarities.
